Ending Childhood Hunger in America

Children need access to nourishing food to grow and thrive. Yet millions of children in the U.S. lack consistent access to enough food for a healthy, active lifestyle. There are multiple contributing factors to child hunger in the U.S., including household finances, family demographics and even geography. Feed the Children’s US programs meet immediate needs and facilitate sustainable solutions as we work to ensure that no child goes to bed hungry.

Resource Rallies

Have you ever seen a Feed the Children-branded truck driving down the highway? It’s headed to a Resource Rally! At these events, 25-lb boxes of food, 15-lb boxes of essential household and personal care items, and other supplies are delivered directly to communities and distributed where they’re needed most. A typical Resource Rally serves around 400 families.

Backpack-N-Go

During the school year, children who receive in-school meals can face the same problem they do during the summertime. With Backpack-N-Go, children receive both food and essential items to take home on weekends or school breaks. A full, easy-to-prepare meal including a main course protein, a grain, a vegetable, and a fruit are part of each backpack.

Disaster Relief

When disasters such as tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes, floods or wildfires strike, Feed the Children works with local community partners to ensure that children and families in impacted areas have the food and essentials they need.

Summer Feed & Read

Every year when school ends, millions of American children lose access to free or reduced-price lunches and breakfasts. Through the Summer Feed & Read Program, we provide nutritious meals to children during the summer months. These meals align with USDA MyPlate recommendations and include a main course protein, a fruit, a vegetable, a grain, and milk.

The program also combats summer learning loss by providing books and encouraging enrollment in summer learning opportunities such as library-sponsored reading programs!
